German consumer inflation rose in May: Federal statistics office Destatis reported German consumer prices index growth accelerated to 2.4% over year in May from 2.2% in April. Energy prices in May were 1.1% lower than in the same month a year earlier. At the same time the increase in food prices accelerated to 0.6% over year from 0.5% in April.

Energy prices in May were 1.1% lower than in the same month a year earlier. At the same time the increase in food prices accelerated to 0.6% over year from 0.5% in April. The inflation rate excluding food and energy, referred to as core inflation, remained at 3.0%. Higher consumer inflation in the largest euro zone economy is bullish for euro and EURUSD. However, the current setup is bearish for the pair.
